ABOUT US

Background of the Future Builders Initiative

Future Builders Initiative (FBI) is a youth-led, non-profit organization committed to empowering young people with the skills, opportunities, and platforms they need to become drivers of social, economic, and political transformation in Nigeria. Since our founding, we have championed initiatives on climate action, entrepreneurship, good governance, and civic participation, directly reaching over 10,000 young people through training, advocacy, and community projects. With footprints across Osun, Ogun, and Kwara States, our mission is to build a generation of future-ready leaders who will transform their communities and nations.

WHY OGUN YOUTH AGENDA?

Did you know that over 60% of Ogun State’s population is under 35 years old (NBS, 2022)?

Yet, despite being the majority, young people in Ogun State remain underrepresented in governance and lack the policy frameworks that safeguard their future. Unlike some other states, Ogun does not yet have a Youth Development Commission Law or an operational State Youth Policy. This gap has left youth voices on the margins of policymaking, worsening issues like youth unemployment (37% in Ogun as of 2023), skills mismatch, and low civic participation.

The OgunYouthAgenda Campaign was born out of the belief that young people should not just be seen as beneficiaries of development but as co-architects of the state’s future. This campaign aims to institutionalize youth development through the passage of a Youth Development Commission Bill and the adoption of a State Youth Policy, ensuring that Ogun youth have a permanent seat at the table of governance.

Mission

To mobilize young people, civil society, policymakers, and development partners towards establishing lasting legal and policy frameworks that guarantee youth development in Ogun State.

Vision

An Ogun State where youth are empowered, represented, and driving sustainable development
